What is the paint code?
Like all other makes and models of cars, BMW's also have paint codes which deliniate their exact bodywork colour. The paint code is established by the maker to help identify the exact colour without any discrepencies. Colour matching is important because nobody wants their car to look like a rainbow when it's been fitted with a multi-part bodykit, or when it's come back from the repairer after you got shunted. If you need any parts spraying up, the paint that will best match your car is the paint made up in accordance to the chemical ratios provided by BMW for each colour code. Automotive shops like Halfords will happily mix you a can of spray for your bumpers if you supply them with the paint code for your car.
Once you have supplied the correct code to the paint mixer, they can start to blend the different colours, thinners and chemicals for your colour. When paint is made up, it is usually supplied in aerosol cans, touch up pens, or tubs for your own spray gun.
Where is the paint code on a bmw?
Paint codes can be found on beemers in a few obvious locations, and most commonly are found under the bonnet (hood) in the engine bay. Pop the bonnet and check on the strut tower for a set of numbers which is usually 3 or 4 digits long, but can also be a letter / number combination. Other locations include being under the locking mechanism on th drivers side door, or on the front edge of the engine bay i.e near the radiator or headlamp. Paint codes have also been seen to have the name of the colour beside the code, usually in German, but not all cars have this. For example, the code 347 has been seen to have Schwarz written beside it, which is German for Black.
Your paint code..
The BMW paint codes list has been posted for information purposes only. It's recommended that you look for the actual paint code on your car first, and then match it to the colour and code here. When you offer the colour code to the paint mixer, make sure the colour code and colour name match as listed here.
