The BMW 5 Series got its name by being the fifth of the "new series" cars after the V-8 and Isetta era. It was intended to replace the smaller New Class saloons, leaving the coupes as the company's low-end model. On January 29, 2008, the 5 millionth 5 series, a 530d saloon in Carbon Black Metallic, was manufactured. The 5 Series has become a very popular car. It suits exectutive business people, and also attracts the family conscious buyer due to its space and safety. The M5 is the daddy 5 Series that has always dominated performance headlines when it comes to luxury saloons. The M5 has been in many shootouts with supercars such as Ferrari's and Lamboghini's. Check some of our Youtube videos which show some crazy unbelievable M5 footage. With competitors such as the Mercedes E Class the BMW 5 Series is a clear winning breed of sedan that will always be the chosen entry level luxury family car. The earlier 518's being the most basic all the way up to the 530 and 530d. Each range has its on Motorsport / M Tech extra's which will suit the taste of most car enthusiast whether they love BMW's or not. The 5 Series used car price range spans from as little as £600 all the way upto £65,000 for an M5 (the most expensive 2010 model on Autotrader at time of writing). So, if you fancy a luxury saloon / sedan but dont fancy a 7 Series, give the 5 Series a chance and you will not be disappointed. |
